The Atlantic Coast Leopard Frog was discovered as a separate specie of leopard frog in 2014; its surprising delayed discovery due to its close resemblance to the Southern Leopard Frog in both physical attributes and call. Very little is known about this new specie, and I have helped Nate Nazdrowitz, a Delaware-based herpetologist and professor, map its region by taking genetic samples from found individuals.

the atlantic coast leopard frog is characterized by a faded spot on the tympanum, a duller (grayish) tone on the back, and the prevalence of black vs green marks on the inner thighs.

the southern leopard frog has a prevalence or even amount of green markings vs black on the thights, a bolder green on the body, and a clearer spot on the tympanum.
