MD-DNR'S Tawes headquarters is a large complex of glass buildings. At the center of the complex is a garden providing an ideal oasis of native plants, which to the employee's delight attracts numerous migratory birds. Unfortunately, bird window-collisions are all too frequent. Although efforts have been made in the past to stop this, they have not been successful. During Fall 2015, I started to monitor strike occurrences to attempt to locate the deadliest locations of our buildings for birds. I compiled this mapping effort together with data and researched solutions to show upper management the need for a bird-friendly resolution. We are currently working on a solution.
